For Father’s Day this month, we’re spotlighting another amazing Dad who plays a big role in the family business. Division Leader Mary Reed says her husband Dave not only convinced her to join lia sophia, but runs it with her today. Mary and Dave have been married for more than 31 years and have three daughters: Michelle, 27, Jennifer, 23 and Kayla, 19. “We do this together and that’s all we do,” says Mary. “He’s my biggest and best cheerleader. I adore him.”
ls: We understand your husband Dave convinced you to join the company? Tell us how that happened.
Mary: He was a business major and he’s pretty smart. He convinced me to join because my oldest daughter was accepted to an expensive private university and we didn’t have the money to send her. He was working 70 hours a week with General Motors and I was a nail technician working from home juggling 25 nail clients every two weeks. Although he was making very good money, but with three kids, I was also working two other part-time jobs trying to make ends meet. He was the one who sat with the Advisor that did my show and asked her all the questions about the business. His thoughts were if there was any truth to what he was hearing, we had nothing to lose. And I didn’t want to be the bad guy and tell my daughter that we couldn’t afford to send her to school. After a couple years of doing lia sophia, he then convinced me to move from Chicago to Phoenix. Another smart move.
ls: Are you happy you took his advice?
Mary: I am thrilled to be a part of the lia sophia family. Not only do I have much more freedom to spend with my family, I’m also paid very well. Dave was able to retire a couple of years ago and this is what we do. I have so many new friends. I am also in an awesome position to help others. There’s no better feeling than being able to take your family on a vacation, buy a new car or even quit your day job.
ls: What’s the best perk of working with your husband?
Mary: I would still love doing lia sophia, but it’s much more fun doing it with him. This is all we do. He is my #1 cheerleader. I know many couples may not be like this but for us, it works. Our philosophy is: if it doesn’t require my personality, he does it. And we make an amazing team.
